For partially sighted or blind persons full and effective participation in society is not always a given. This means that the goals as targeted in the UN Convention of Rights for Persons with a Disability have not yet been accomplished. Royal Dutch Visio aims to contribute to achieving these goals. The mission of Visio is to enable blind and partially sighted people of all age groups, including those with additional disabilities, to participate in society to their full potential. Visio has a great deal of specialised in-house knowledge and expertise and is constantly developing new methods and products together with people with a visual impairment and other partners.
Visio is working in the Netherlands and as Visio International also active in Europe, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and the West Bank. To make a real impact in a sustainable way, we work closely with partners representing people with a visual impairment, parents, governments, education and care professionals and communities. Our main field of expertise is capacity building and connecting these key stakeholders. Together we aim to empower partially sighted and blind people and build their capacities. Key words are inclusion, dignity and recognition.
The core team of Visio International exists of 5 people. The team is part of Visio’s department of Knowledge, Expertise and Innovation (KEI). Visio International participates in international exchange of knowledge and capacity enhancement through programmes, projects, conferences and international networks.
