For partially sighted or blind persons full and effective participation in society is not always a given. This means that the goals as targeted in the UN Convention of Rights for Persons with a Disability have not yet been accomplished. Royal Dutch Visio aims to contribute to achieving these goals. The mission of Visio is to enable blind and partially sighted people of all age groups, including those with additional disabilities, to participate in society to their full potential. Visio has a great deal of specialised in-house knowledge and expertise and is constantly developing new methods and products together with people with a visual impairment and other partners.

Visio is working in the Netherlands and as Visio International also active in Europe, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and the West Bank. To make a real impact in a sustainable way, we work closely with partners representing people with a visual impairment, parents, governments, education and care professionals and communities. Our main field of expertise is capacity building and connecting these key stakeholders. Together we aim to empower partially sighted and blind people and build their capacities. Key words are inclusion, dignity and recognition.

The core team of Visio International exists of 5 people. The team is part of Visio’s department of Knowledge, Expertise and Innovation (KEI). Visio International participates in international exchange of knowledge and capacity enhancement through programmes, projects, conferences and international networks.

Your job:

  • in cooperation with partner organisations and stakeholders build on sustainable systems for people with a visual impairment to maximise their potential for full participation in society
  • encourage and improve cohesion between persons with a visual impairment, their parents/caregivers, healthcare, education and rehabilitation
  • coordinate the programmes in Botswana and Ghana in close cooperation with the national coordinators
  • manage the enhancement and implementation of expertise with hands-on knowledge, skills and tools so that stakeholders are able to provide quality support
  • monitor the progress and coherence of the programmes based on impact measurement plans and report on realised interventions in relation to the Theory of Change
  • function as link a between the Programme’s partner organisations and stakeholders and the Visio organization
  • contribute to the formulation and implementation of  Visio’s international policy and to other activities related to international work
  • network actively and promote the activities of Visio International

You:

  • are Bachelor or Master in a discipline related to international cooperation and/or programme management
  • are Impact oriented, result driven and  you have a long term focus, aiming to make a difference for visually impaired people
  • know how to assess key success factors and to identify what is needed to build a sustainable system in a country or region
  • have the ability to think at strategic, management and operational level
  • have international working experience and organizational and cultural sensitivity
  • are able to build effective relationships and have strong communication and lobbying skills
  • are an active networker and promotor of the international activities of Visio in- and outside the organisation
  • know how to accomplish outcomes through formal and informal networks 
  • enjoy both working in a team and independently
  • are fluent in English and you have knowledge and experience of financial programme administration, and the Theory of Change. Experience with services for people with a visual impairment is considered a plus
  • are prepared to travel abroad on a regular basis, also outside office hours
